On Tuesday, Facebook reached 300 million users, and is in the black! Yes Facebook, the number one social network for number of users, is actually making money.

What does this mean for coaches?

Well, for all business owners, we know that one (or three?) main factors to success is “Location, location, location” – and with foot traffic of 300 million users, Facebook is the place for a life or business coach to be. Go where the people go! Where else are you going to find such a diverse culture of people? Even if you connect to a very small percentage of those users, you still have a huge potential of doing business. However, with so many users, perhaps you may feel the need to ‘shout!’ to be heard, but this is not true. If you start small, and are genuinely are interested in people – listen, interact, share – then your network will expand naturally. As Chris Brogan stated, “Don’t make your efforts on places like Twitter and Facebook solely about driving people to your home base, but instead, be helpful, participatory, and a good citizen of the social space you’re occupying. When you have some really interesting or helpful information, consider pointing people to your post for more information.”

When you first join Facebook, become friends with people you admire – check out your bookshelf or your RSS feeds for who that could be. People that follow those individuals might be like minded to you, and thus potential ‘friends’. As you grow your network, remember to interact with them as you would in ‘real life’ – such as a networking function. Ask questions, read their profile, get to know them. I’ve noticed that if I keep-up with my network a little everyday vs. a lot once a month, I’m much more likely to gain more out of it – both personally and professionally.

By the way, we’re having a Facebook Success Forum next Friday, September 25th. If you want to learn more about how successful coaches use Facebook, sign-up for the free 1 hour class.

As we move more often, as we are more busy with work, as a people we needed a way to connect that was convenient and could be done during ‘our time’. That’s where social networking came in – we listen, contribute, connect in a way neighbors used to. You can use that connection to build your business, but in a real and honest way – a genuine way. But first, watch the video to learn why your business can’t ignore social media.

You can create a community for your clients through a simple Ning.com website – a site that’s like your own personal Facebook, with your own design, ability to add and take away features, and even take-off ads, etc.

This past week we took a quick drive-through of Ning.com: creating your Profile, what makes a community popular, how to start building a popular community, and keep it going.

This week, we’ll go into more depth of how to personalize your Ning.com site, including design, features, and management. Be sure to sign-up if you’re not already on our eNewsletter list, as we’ll be using a webinar service so you can ‘see’ what we’re doing.

We had an amazing group of successful coaches, speakers and a professional digital branding expert discuss why they use Twitter, how they use it, and the success they’ve had. Each used Twitter differently, yet successfully. I hope that each of you that listen to the call will take away that it doesn’t matter how you use it, so long as you do – and do so authentically. Don’t become a Spammer, only there to promote yourself, but realize that Twitter is a way to connect, communicate, and network with others you may not have reached otherwise.
The call was so successful, I will continue to have panelist discussions in the future. Be sure to sign-up for our classes if you wish to have notice of our Friday classes.
Enjoy!

Most recently, Amy spent three seasons with the Phoenix Suns developing their Digital Media platform and integrating new and existing marketing partner brands within all Suns digital channels. Such digital touch points include, mobile marketing programs, official social networking forums, virtual websites and official team property sites.

Amy’s area of expertise involves layering social media strategies to create one cohesive digital brand universe. She has developed a proprietary formula to mix traditional digital measurement with social media metrics. Her most recent example of social media success is the growth of Shaquille O’Neal’s digital brand via Twitter implementing strategies such as “Random Acts of Shaqness” and “ShaqDay”.

Digital Royalty, Amy’s new business venture, focuses on digital integration and social media strategies to help brands and athletes build their digital universe through the following methods:

· Creating a digital roadmap which guides brands to establish an integrated network of traditional digital and social media touch points – all working together in digital symphony.

· Exposing and evolving brand personalities, digitally. Educating brands on the balancing act of being social with human qualities while wearing the ever-necessary brand management hat.

· Converging traditional and digital media to leverage the brand’s Return on Influence (ROI) and maintain one comprehensive marketing strategy.

Prior to founding Digital Royalty and working for the Phoenix Suns, Amy was an account supervisor at a full service ad agency working with clients such as the Arizona Cardinal, Phoenix Coyotes and Super Bowl XLII. She is a graduate of Arizona State University with a degree in Marketing and Business.
